Holy shit, Evan @ Grahamstown Festival, South Africa

Found this in a paper I don't normally buy, regarding an arts festival I don't pay attention to:


Nerdy sniggering at the Dando-to-Phiri-via-Mrs-Robinson aside, this is rather kick-ass, and Grahamstown is only 889km away from Cape Town.

Safety ticket for the unplugged gig itself bought, the remaining things on the to-do list are:
- Book leave
- Book accommodation
- Book flights
- Internally debate dream setlist
- Alert the internet

This is all immensely awesome. I seriously never thought I'd get a chance to see Evan live.

Yeah, one does wonder just how much mileage one can get out of a People magazine quote from the early 90s... I guess they'll stop printing it when you stop vouching for it  :D

In other news, everything's booked and I'm off to see Evan - definitely seeing him solo/unplugged on the Monday, and seeing him with Ray Phiri on either the Saturday or the Sunday. Or both  :D

Anyone know why he's coming? It all seems entirely random that he's just popping over to Africa to play an arts festival, no touring or promoting or anything, and I'm not aware of a massive Saffa fanbase crying out for him to come over... just four gigs jamming with someone who sounds as baffled/intrigued as I am, then off to Croatia.

Unless I move overseas, 889km is as short a distance as it's gonna get!
It's a two hour flight followed by about a two hour drive drive, so Evan'll be spending less time getting there than I am

Lucky you!!! The closest show I've ever gotten was 5 hours from where I live!!!  :rolleyes: The only musicians that come to northern Michigan are Kid Rock, Jewel, and ....oh yeah- Billy Ray Cyrus.

It's crazy, huh? I wonder if Evan realizes how much all of us pay just to see him play a show!! I usually spend about $400-700. Hotels, gas, food, and booze add up fast!  :lol: The cheapest part is the actual cost of the show!

I fly up to Port Elizabeth tomorrow morning, drive to Grahamstown, see him tomorrow afternoon with Ray Phiri, then Monday again for the solo unplugged thingy, and then fly back to Cape Town Tuesday... just in time to see him down the road from me on Wednesday. So. Very. Very. Excited.  :D
